When Life Gives You Lemons

We've all heard the saying, but what's the Bible's response?

When Life Gives You Lemons

Don't immediately make lemonade. Don't immediately throw them out.

All throughout the Bible, we see God's people, even His son come across great trials and have insanely difficult odds put up against them. They definitely had it a lot worse than we do now.

When we come across trials, we should employ the scriptures that we hear so often.

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
James 1:12
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds.
James 1:2

James says that trials should be a joyous occasion and that trials can bless us.

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
1 Peter 5:10

Peter says that after a trial, God will make us even better than we were before we went through it.

The scriptures tell us to rejoice in all trials. We can rejoice in trials because of the sacrifice that Jesus gave on the cross. When we go through trials, we can get a tiny, microscopic glimpse, of what Jesus' life was like here on earth, and that is what we should desire as His disciples.

So the next time you get a lemon thrown at your head, instead of making lemonade out of it, take a moment to reflect on and be thankful for the cross.
